Take a chance. Go to hell and back for your sister's soul.

Characters

Jack Nightingale's story
- After the paedophile died while in my custody, I left the force. You just do what you have to do to put things right. There’s at least one person who thinks I should be had for that – lots who don’t.

How I ended up here, I don’t know. I didn’t know I was adopted, or that I had a sister.

Quite a background my family has given me – pentagrams, incantations and conjuring up some very nasty characters. Tricky stuff to handle.

Jenny's story
- How could Jack think what we found was OK? An old man and his wife both brutally killed in their own home. And that message for him, scrawled in blood, about what would happen to his sister.

Proserpine's story
- Every question he asked could cost him his life. Each one let me loose a killer. Three shots at him. I think Jack understands much better now – a bargain struck with the underworld has to be kept to the very letter.
